She followed me out to our little patch of garden. I can’t go outside without her filling my shadow.
“Can I look for cucumbers? Can I pick one, mom?”
She found five. FIVE.
She excitedly gathered them into her arms while my jaw dropped. I grew that. WE grew that!
She refused to let me carry them into the house. Holding them like her own little cucumber babies, she told me the story of how they had grown off of vines – as if I had been merely a visitor to her veggie patch.
She called Grandma Golfer and left a message on her machine, “We grew some cucumbers. Do you want one? Call me back!”
So proud of herself. She grew these green beauties.
And maybe I helped a little, too.

Oh, my goodness, Tara, she is adorable! Cucumbers? What cucumbers? Your little cutie steals the show! 😉

Thank you so much, Sheila. This garden has become Lila’s project as well as mine. She is so proud of every vegetable that we’ve grown. It’s adorable (though I do have to watch out for too-teeny cukes and zucchinis behind plucked by eager hands)!

So sweet.
Tara
Thank you so much, Lisa! (I agree!)

What a beautiful helper you have, Tara.
Tara
Thank you very much, Marilyn!

Oh that is ADORABLE. I love that she was so proud, she took full ownership of the garden and told you how it grew. So sweet.

Oh, this child – you’d think that she was the one who rigged up the plant lights, and who was sweating over every seedling as she transplanted them. I am so glad that she’s taken an interest in the garden. The kids were probably the main reason that I planted the garden – I wanted them to see where food comes from. (The whole ‘Lookit what I grew” thing was more my deal!)

Woohoo! Well done that’s awesome!
Tara
Thank you so much, Mel! It means a lot coming from a Gardener Extraordinaire like you! 🙂

Aw how great is that??!! Next thing you know, she’ll be setting up a vegetable stand at the end of your drive!
Tara
Oh… she WOULD do that. Once I figure out this whole “growing veggies” business, I wouldn’t be opposed to a little entrepreneurial spirit in the house! (And I’m trying to convince Hubby to let me have chickens – then I could have a little egg shack too!)

I love her! She’s so adorable. I’m glad she is learning to love to grow things now. It will do her well in the future. I can grow weeds and zucchini, that is all.
Tara
Oh, I’m working on a weed that is a thing of beauty. It’s a thistle that is almost as tall as I am. He’s been hiding behind a large bush in my garden, and I just noticed him the other day. I don’t have the heart to cut him down. He’s been working so hard at his weediness. 😉

You need to support such dedication!
