And waited some more.
Because the seed packet told me to, I started the pumpkin seeds indoors (while everything else went to compost outside). Little pumpkin sproutlings are now reaching out and stretching their legs. This is the only life I have seen out of all of that planting, and watching, and waiting..
It’s kind of discouraging.
Yes, this is a coffee-cup-turned-plant-pot! |
But then today, Lila noticed something peeking out of one of the other “pots” we had living indoors. Another little sproutling is joining our garden! Hooray! It’s not a complete and utter loss!
This tiny little fella has re-invigorated my desire to make my dream garden a reality. Tomorrow, the girls and I will plant our seeds (part deux) into our little pots, and we will keep them inside until the weather warms. I’m hoping that we will have more little plants to join our pumpkin triplets.
This gardening thing has a bit of a learning curve, methinks.

It’s fair o say I live in a completely different climate so my tips are probably no good, but keep it up veggie gardening is fun so many health benefits and really awesome free food. We started about 4 years ago and have never looked back 🙂

I will definitely persevere (thanks for the encouragement, Mel!). I know that the benefits of having a veggie garden are huge… but I feel like I have a lot of learning to do. I’m hoping that this year is the one where I actually have a harvest. Even a small one would be a huge accomplishment!

How fun! Just like you, I am gardening challenged BUT this year, I want to try my hand at gardening as well. Unlike you, I am not as proactive as you. I don’t even have a pumpkin triplets at this point. Mine is still just a dream 🙂

Oh, make that dream a reality so that we can share our trials and tribulations (or rotting seeds) together! I feel like I’m entering completely unchartered territory… this year is going to be a lot of trial and error.

Totally hard! I remember the first yer I tried starting my seeds inside and my cats knocked over my whole tray of little seedlings one day while I was out… All that work in a pile on my kitchen floor. Last year my four year old and I planted our tomatoes waaaaay to close together and ended up with a scary tomato jungle. Learning curve… Hopefully this year goes better. Good luck!

Oh, I’m sure that I have many of those “amateur hour” accidents in store for me this year. I just have these grandiose ideas…. You’ll have to keep me posted on your garden attempts this year. I need a partner in crime! (or dirt!)

Well, we only grow pumpkins, corn and hay here at Silo Hill Farm.
Tara you have some comments on your guest post at Inspiration Cafe. Do you want to reply to them?

Okay, you will be my go-to girl for information.. I swear, gardening is something that I really want to be good at!

SPROUTS!!!!! That’s so awesome!

It is… It’s the little peek-a-boo of hope that I needed to want to plant more seeds. The second time will be the last time, though. If these seed rot like their predecessors, then I’m just going to buy plants from the nursery. 😉

Good luck! I find growing plants from seed to be tough — I’ve only have had luck with peas and sunflowers! So now, I buy the seedlings from the garden store instead of seeds.
Tara @ Suburble
That may be the way I end up going. I just had this idea of the me and girls growing our own plants from seed… being the quintessential homesteader… generally kicking gardening ass…
But started seedlings do sound much easier!
