Thank you, Kinder and Mom Central Canada, for sponsoring this post.
There is a very cool new tradition happening these days in Halloween-town: it’s “Boo”ing someone! I’ve seen this on Pinterest before, and it was a fellow Kinder mom – Gina of East Coast Mommy – who inspired me to try out this tradition this year!
I’ve been lucky enough to have joined a gang of moms who are known as Kinder Moms. This means that we get to share some of these fantastic (and fun) treats with our family and friends. This is only some of the “Kinder Haul” we received this month.
Yeah. I know. It’s crazy.
“Crazy awesome!” say the two little girls who live in this house.
Tucked away in each Kinder egg is a toy. The two themes that our eggs featured were Marvel Heroes and Disney Princesses. What these characters meant to us was that they help other people. They’re kind. They’re generous. They look good.
And that inspired us to spread a bit of that love, Halloween-style!
I whipped up some quick printables to explain why, exactly, we were handing out Kinder Eggs to all of our friends. This printable is available to you guys too! Click here, my sweet friends!
We gathered some supplies. Everything came from the dollar store (woot for inexpensive awesomeness!): these boutonniere bags fit two Kinder eggs, which were then secured with silver curling ribbon. It was an efficient assembly line of a 3 and 4 year old that put these all together.
The plan was to drop one of these babies onto the front step of each of our friends (sometimes in multiples, as there might be two or three kidlets in that household). We would knock on the door and then run and hide…. waiting…. for the moment to leap out and yell “Surprise!”
The first Secret Agent: Boo-tastic Lila, dressed up in her Sophia the First costume. Here we are, ready to begin our mission.
Lucy dressed as a “Boo”tiful fireman. Both kids were their own versions of heros, I think.
I know… maybe “Cleaning out the car” needs to be our next mission. Don’t judge me. Or judge me, but do it quietly.
We headed from house to house, knocking on doors and watching kids find their little bags of chocolatey awesomeness on the doorstep. One of our friends asked her mom, “Are these eggs from the Easter bunny?”
A couple of times, we might have scared our friends a little more than we intended (thankfully we’re all at an age that peeing our pants isn’t THAT embarrassing)… but really, we’re only toughening them up for Halloween. In fact, it was like we were reverse trick-or-treating! How much fun is that?!?!
Consider “Boo”ing your friends or neighbours! Print out the tags and grab a few Kinder eggs to leave on a waiting doorstep! I promise that your friends will be thrilled to know you!

I love Kinder eggs! I am so so so jealous that you can get them where you live!
Tara
Oh, I know, Jacque. Maybe we could start a petition? 😉

What a fun idea! A German friend introduced me to Kinder Eggs when we were in collage. I’m glad we can get them (modified) in the US now!
Tara
I remember reading about these modified eggs. Kinder Eggs are such a hit in our house; the girls were beyond thrilled to be gifting to their friends. (It was a pretty awesome trip!)

It’s beyond ridiculous that you can’t buy these in the US. Growing up these were always such a treat on Easter.
Tara
I hear you, Danielle! Petition – let’s do it! We do Kinder Eggs year round in this house (A certain Daddy likes to bring home treats for the girls… he’s such a sucker…)

Tara
Hah! Girl, if you ever come to Canada, I’ll greet you with a case of Kinder eggs. Your little one won’t know what to do with himself! 🙂

Great idea! My kids would love this tradition. We just might be snagging your idea. Who wouldn’t love to recieve a #Kinder?
Tara
Umm… everyone loves Kinder. Even people who don’t like chocolate love the surprise on the inside.
The girls’ grandpa got a Kinder egg from them. And he got a look of glee on his face when he was cracking it open. So weird, but so awesome, these eggs! 🙂

So cute Tara! My boys LOVE Kinder Surprise… thanks for the printable too! Pinned:)
Tara
Oh, who DOESN’T love Kinder Surprise? (And thanks for the pin, girlie! Always appreciated!)

My grandparents used to live in Germany and would send us Kinder eggs, or my mom would bring them home to us when she would visit! I had totally forgotten about then, what a fun memory!
Tara
My in-laws brought some European Kinder eggs back for the kid (I guess to see if they were different?). They weren’t, but the kids were still tickled to get them!
This mama loves her chocolate in any form. 🙂

Cute! I need to get Boo’ed asap!
Tara
Yes, you do. Tell Aaron to set a little something up for you. Or one day, I’m going to get your address and send you something totally awesome. A Kenz Care Package.
Oh jeez… I’ve had a brainstorm! 🙂
Melanie
I have never heard of these, but they look cool!
Tara
You’ve never heard of Kinder Eggs!?!?? Oh, Melanie – we have to get you to Canada (or Europe – wherever your heart fancies). You (and your brood) will LOVE Kinder Eggs!

I love this idea. It is such a neat way to connect with others and have fun. We did it at work one year and it really added a positive spirit to the workplace! Thanks for the inspiration1 ~Thea
Tara
I can imagine how awesome this would be at work (where things can be pretty repetitive, especially in some jobs) – I’m going to make a point of doing more “share the love” stuff, especially with the kids. They were so happy to share their Kinder haul! 🙂
Kristina
It was so fun! My kids were a little scared at first but very happy once they realized who was behind the BOO and that you left them treats! Thanks for coming by:)
Tara
Seeing S run up to Lila with her little ring, proudly saying, “This is from the egg you gave me!” was completely worth it for me (and for her). We were so happy to share our eggs with our friends. It’s just our way of saying, “Hey! We like you!”
Kara
Oh, this is great! Connor would love this!!
Tara
It’s so much fun! Let me know if you try it!
Mique

Reverse trick or treating! Love it!!

I know! I think we’re going to “reverse trick or treat” every year!
Amy of while wearing heels
What a fun adventure. I am sure your neighbors were surprised to be booed. I bet the girls had fun on their mission too!
Tara
The girls had so much fun on their mission. We felt so “stealth’!
Adrianne at Happy Hour Projects
I wonder if there’s a neighborhood “BOO”ing going on in my new neighborhood… there’s still time for me to start one!
Also… I wish the US had cooler Kinder eggs, I want some of yours!!
Tara
What kind of Kinder Eggs do you guys have? Definitely start one if there isn’t a BOOing going on already! Three days left!
Bronwyn MayB
That is adorable. What a great idea.
Tara
Thank you so much, Bronwyn!
Marilyn
This looks so fun! I’ve never seen Kinder Eggs before…..they look awesome!
Tara
Kinder Eggs are fabulous! My girls love them!
mommy oustide
What a cute idea! I have to admit I’d be a little afraid of creeping up on people’s doorsteps and dropping surprises…..
Tara
There were some butterflies in my stomach when we crept up the to the doors of our friends… but because we only “boo’ed” our friends, things weren’t as nerve-wracking as if we had boo’ed strangers. (But maybe next year we’ll be brave!)
Cyn
Booing is such fun and I love the idea of using Kinder Eggs to do it! So cute!
Tara
Awww.. thanks, Cyn! Kinder Eggs make everything so much more fun!
my blog
First of all I would like to say terrific blog!
I had a quick question which I’d like to ask if you don’t mind.
I was curious to know how you center yourself and clear your thoughts before writing.
I’ve had a difficult time clearing my mind in getting my thoughts out.
I truly do take pleasure in writing but it just seems
like the first 10 to 15 minutes are lost just trying to figure out how to begin. Any
recommendations or tips? Appreciate it!
