I have a bit of a soft spot for unicorns.
Well, who doesn’t, really? They’re horses with a fabulous-and-fancy horn thing smack dab in the middle of their heads.
For a couple of months now, a Sizzix Majestic Unicorn cutting die has been sitting in my craft cupboard, waiting for a creative moment.
Then something happened. I discovered this stuff:
This is sequin paper. As in, it’s the stuff that sequins are made of.
Yep. You’re probably going to need some. I bought three packages of it.
I used my die in my Sizzix BIGKick to cut out a unicorn sequin. Those two words are perfect pair, don’t you think? Then I puzzled a bit. How could I make this into jewelry? It wasn’t quite strong enough to be its own charm.
So I cut out a little foundation for my dear unicorn. Using a sheet of Little Sizzles – which are these crazy stiff pieces of mat board that can be cut with your Sizzix cutting machine – I cranked out a backing for my unicorn charm.
I used Mod Podge matte to adhere the two pieces together, and then punched a hole near the unicorn’s mane.
I used a jump ring to attach the charm to a gold chain.
At first, I channeled my inner Flava Flav and used a heavier chain. It was pretty… but just a bit too much.
The thinner gold chain complimented the unicorn much better.
I’ve already worn this necklace twice, and I know it is going to become a multi-outfit piece. Now, because of the mat board backing, this isn’t a piece that you could swim with – but it’s sturdy enough to be worn on most days.
And this sequin paper… it’s got a LOT of potential. Watch out, guys. Things are going to get sparkly around here.
